Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at laura@littleleafpregnancy.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

It is recommended that you start Antenatal or Hypnobirthing Classes between 20 and 30 weeks if at all possible. Some people do start earlier due to class availability and this just means they have the information earlier. If you start later, that's fine too, you can go over your Birth Plan with your midwife again if you want to make changes after the course!

Baby Care Classes can be started as late as 37 weeks pregnant.

No problem. I have been there, fitting so much into a week/month.

If you cannot come to a session- Give me a call before you book- We might be able to get you caught up another way! Don't let that put you off. We can also offer a live video feed if you are able to join us remotely (Of me, not the group!)

If you find yourselves unable to join a class during the course- We can pencil in a catch up online before the next session.

Just make sure to let us know so we can see how we can help!

This actually happens more than people think- Sometimes partners arrive a little later- That's OK! If you find your partner is unable to attend a session you are welcome to invite someone else to accompny you for that session. Or you can come alone- I shall look after you. x

Not at all. You are never put on the spot. You are always welcome to join in as much or as little as feels right for you.

That is completely normal. Many people arrive feeling a little unsure at first, especially if it is their first baby. The classes are designed to be relaxed, supportive and pressure free.

Yes, absolutely. Questions are always welcome. No question is silly, and if something needs a fuller answer, that is encouraged too.

You are welcome to reach out. Ongoing support and signposting are part of the care around the course.

That is one of the loveliest parts of classes. Many people enjoy meeting others who are at a similar stage and building those early connections. At the beginning of every session we have small group activities prompting peer connection and reducing isolation.

Yes, where possible there is encouragement to stay connected, including things like WhatsApp groups, follow up support and chances to meet again.  I am here to support you both!

Usually just yourself, something comfortable to wear, and anything you might like for taking notes. Sessions already include refreshments, hot and cold drinks and materials.

No. They can be helpful whether this is your first baby or not. Even if you have done this before, every pregnancy and birth is different.

Classes cover birth, labour, choices, informed decision making, birth partner support, feeding, newborn care, sleep, poo and wee, bathing, recovery, and the early days with baby. It's comprehensive- Everything you need! I even have weighted babies for couples to pracise baby carrying, nappy changing, swaddling and holds good for baby development!

No. The focus is on informed choice, support and helping you understand your options. A positive birth is not about one particular type of birth. The classes do not only cover straightforward birth. They also help you understand interventions, choices and how to ask questions confidently.

Hand on means that these classes are designed for you both to be activily trying things you learn. You will get a weighted baby doll and a swaddle between you both for example and space to have a go. And support should you need it!

Basically YES! Again this happens more than people think! I always recommend that all labouring people have a Birth Partner. This can be a friend, a family member or me if you like! Invite them to the class, or attend alone, you do get a discount if you come alone! I do talk about the benefits of a Birth Partner so it is definitely worth finding one for your baby's Birthday!

Of course! Your other option is, some people choose to host a private course in their own home with their friends. I can come to you! Price is spilt between the group. Just contact me to ask for prices.

Frequently Asked Questions for Hypnobirthing

Please reach us at laura@littleleafpregnancy.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Hypnobirthing practice is about training your body and mind to feel calmer, safer and more confident during pregnancy, labour and birth.

It includes breathing techniques, relaxation (scripts and Mp3s), visualisation, positive birth affirmations, birth partner practice and learning how your body works during labour.

No. Hypnobirthing is for all births.

It can support you during a home birth, hospital birth, induction, assisted birth or caesarean birth. The aim is not to birth in one “right” way. The aim is to help you feel informed, calm, supported and able to make decisions that feel right for you and your baby.

 Little and often is best.

Even 5 to 10 minutes most days can make a big difference. You do not need to sit perfectly still for an hour every day. You can practise while lying in bed, sitting on your birth ball, having a bath, walking, or before you go to sleep.

You can start whenever you feel ready.

Many people find it helpful to begin from around the second trimester, but it is never too late. Even practising in the final few weeks can help you feel more prepared and confident.

It is really helpful if they can.

Your birth partner plays an important role in protecting your birth space, helping you stay calm, reminding you to relax your jaw and shoulders, supporting your breathing and advocating for your choices. Even a few minutes of practice together can help them feel more confident too.

Yes, absolutely. Questions are always welcome. No question is silly, and if something needs a fuller answer, that is encouraged too.

Hypnobirthing is not about promising a pain free birth.

  1. It is about reducing fear, tension and panic, which can make labour feel more manageable. When your body feels safer, you are more likely to breathe well, relax your muscles and work with your body rather than against it.

 Yes.

Hypnobirthing can be especially useful during induction because it helps you stay calm, ask questions, understand your choices and keep your body as relaxed as possible. You can still use breathing, visualisation, movement, birth preferences and partner support.

That is exactly why practice helps.

Birth can change direction, and hypnobirthing gives you tools to stay grounded if plans need to adapt. A positive birth is not about everything going perfectly. It is about feeling respected, informed and supported throughout.

It can help many people feel calmer and more prepared.

The breathing, relaxation and knowledge can reduce fear and help you feel more in control. If your anxiety feels overwhelming, it is also important to speak to your midwife, GP or another trusted professional for extra support.
