Hypnobirthing is recognized by the British Medical Association as an effective method of relieving pain in childbirth. Think of a time you were anxious- You naturally pause and take a breath, why, what happens to our bodies? You can be prepared & calm for the birth of your baby. It is a must for any expecting parents!
You have heard about it but actually, have no idea what it entails and if it's your cuppa tea?! Maybe it all sounds a bit weird to you?
Do you think people using hypnobirthing will only be birthing at home? It's actually more useful in hospitals!
Have you got it confused with stage Hypnosis where you think I can make you cluck like a chicken or eat an onion thinking its an apple?
It's just words used in a positive effective way. It's just a rubbish name for it. It could be called "Stress management and relaxation Techniques for Labour and Birth" or "Mindful Birthing"
From an early age we hear about pregnancy and birth, the elaborations, the scaremongering, for some reason we love bigging up a story. Whether it is from your mum or your friends or even in movies. Don't even get me started on the program 'One born every minute!'
However you have come across labour and birth I can guarantee it was probably 90% full of fear and screaming. (even though if we think about it, films and programs have to make it interesting for watchers so they would pick the juiciest overdramatic bits wouldn't they?
Our brain then processes these inputs as FACT- Birth is a scary painful event that I have to endure!
Sorry- That's simply not true!
There is a way to approach the birth of your baby in a calm and confident manner. By doing this you will be more relaxed and actually be able to work with your body to make labour more of a powerful amazing event, instead of one that needs to be feared.
DID you know- Your anxiety and fear is felt by the baby too and can have lasting effects on the baby after it is born? Hypnobirthing is really useful for Inductions and Ceasarians too!
In my Antenatal & Hypnobirthing Classes you are given techniques to help you manage your emotions and relaxing scripts to help you re program your thoughts of birth to be positive. With lots of practise you become what you hear. You can be calm and confident. It's called Hypnobirthing.
Control and knowledge over what we are doing. By learning all about your options, the what ifs, the how tos you understand your pregnancy and birth. You KNOW how to help your body and your baby. It's a great happy feeling and this makes us produce Oxcytocin! You will learn just how important Oxytocin is in labour and birth in my course.
What about being calm?
Now when we are clam, we can make our best decisions- Which is so important as you are making decisions that will effect yours AND your babies health. Also, when our bodies are calm, they relax. A relaxed body allows muscles to stretch and open. You can see where I am going right? A tense, frightened and stressed mum will have hard tight muscles, that wrap around the baby's head and body. Muscles that don't stretch easily or allow the baby to decend into your arms! It causes stress to you AND your baby.
A relaxed birthing mum works WITH her body. Her muscles are soft and stretchy. She workes with her body so the contractions are ore effective and less stressful for mum and baby.
Meaning a calmer and healthier birth for both of you!
Now can you see why it is recognised by the British Medical Association?
Are you ready to take the next step to a confident and calm birth?
(there is actually a bit more below about using Hypnobirthing for other types of birth too!)
The picture on the right is not quite what we visualise birth to be. However if you need make this choice. It can still be a positive experience. I had planned a home birth in 2020 but it was better for my baby that she came out of the sunroof in the end. I am happy. There is no regret. My birth might not have gone exactly as I had preferred but I made all of the decisions. I was informed of my other options. I was in control and calm the whole time and I birthed Ashleigh in the best and healthiest way for her. It was still the greatest day of my life!
It is not how or where you birth your baby.
